Hi All I have a Question regarding Free Mods
I am in the process of obtaining a MKIII and Was wondering if any one knew of/or is there a thread concerning free mods or relatively cheap mods to start from

For Example When i was into Fox Bodys
We did things like bump timing, Throttle body coolant line bypass, gut the cats, Lighten/Shave the Flywheel And such....

Now are there similar Popular Mods or is it all Buy and Install?

Any Help would be appreciated

Coolant bypass on tb won't do anything.

Gutting the cat will give a tiny bit but on a turbo the whole stock exhaust system from turbo back is a restriction.

Flywheel have to buy a light weight one.

Timing won't give you much if anything.

Most thing to make power need to be bought installed and tuned. Na motors are hard to make much more power than stock.

ok thanks, What about installing an Electric Fan versus the Stock fan Clutch setup, on fox bodys we would do this and also remove the Smog pump and/or Bypass the AC compressor to reduce rotating Mass, which was the Concept for shaving flywheel

Electric fans do a considerably worse job of cooling the engine versus the stock fan clutch.

Instead of trying to hunt down cheap/free ways of "modding" your car, spend your time and effort on maintenance and repairs. It'll be a more gratifying car to own, running better and being more reliable.

No thats no gOod. Fan is not needed when moving at speed there for the clutch let's the fan free wheel.

Also using electric fans will free up maybe 1-2 hp when is then lost loading up the alternator and usually won't do the job of cooling.

The car has been Taken care of The HG been replaced, has a JDM Head and Turbo, Interior is Super and what I am trying to do is Not "Hunt" Down Cheap or Free Modds But rather Just Get a feel of what These cars bring to the Table, I have owned a MKIII in the Past and I am Turning My attention back to them bc i really enjoyed the car While I had it. I mainly dealt with American Cars( Mustang 5Ltrs) And simply want to compare the kind of practices if you will or the do's and Don'ts of these Cars...Thanks For the Advice, Greatly appreciated

I would say remove all the AC stuff. But it appears you live in Egypt lol. Where I live it's not to big a deal to remove. You could remove weight if you want. Such as the rear seats and spare tire. But if you are going with weight reduction then you should try and take it off the front of the car. Not a free mod, but relocating the battery to the rear is nice.

You guys must be pretty bad at modding cars, I've cooled many vehicles with electric fans that have replaced clutch fans. and 1-2hp? Try 6-7hp when the fan clutch engages. The alternator will use maybe another .2hp to turn when a big fan is fully wound up.

Lets please not discuss that here, its been argued to death many, many times.

It doesn't matter what other cars have done with success, because this isn't some 'other' car. You can do whatever you want to do, but just make sure you do it safe and do it well!

but I will play

cheep next to free mods (hilly billy stlye)

cut the stock air box (possibly remove filter if you feel like it)
remove cat and the back half of the exhuast
bump base timng to 12 or 13
put washers behind wastgate
drill out afm screw and back it all the way out
use pvc for hard pipes from plumbing store ( cheeper use lots of zap straps on the rubber piping to stop it form expanding LOTS OF THEM

lol funny part is that listed above will make your car faster lol and be hella getto

but really dude like any other car out there

intake/exhuast/bump timing/bump boost (bpu) basic power upgrade how you do it is up to you

and I will end with this the mk3/7mgte is the cheepest car and most gain's for cheep then any car out, tell ya hit the fuel cut wall of cores
