Idk if you guys remember but about a week ago i posted about having problems with the bolt that holds on my targa? well today it finally broke...haha

i was driving to go pick up my friend in hawaii kai and when i was on the freeway i was doing about 75-80 and then i just hear a loud POP and hear a shit load of air rushing into the car and i look up and on the driver side corner i can see blue!!

the front driver side bolt that holds that targa top on stripped the threaded part inside the targa completely! i been having problems with it loosening itself and i guess it was loose and air got under it

so i ended up having to drive for about 15-20 minutes with my arm out holding my top on untill i could get to my friends house haha

Reading this thread makes me want to go check my targa and make sure it is tight. Even though I just checked it yesterday. Mine vibrate loose every few days so I have to tighten them down. They will usually start squeaking when it works itself loose though.

On the highway once a bolt got loose and it started banging up and down. Luckily the other bolts held and I pulled over. Scary shit. They do loosen up over time

I was in my brothers car when we busted a F&F, lol, we were going down a major street and we hear this hissing sound and whoosh the top flew off and I looked back and other cars were dodgeing it, so my brother busted a u turn and we were going back to pick it up and then this big rig just runs it over.:3d_frown: we were so close to saving it:cry:

the fear of having that happen is why no matter what kind of rush I was in, I NEVER put my targa top back on the car without tightening down the bolts. It was either staying off, or bolted on, there was no in between.

As for your stripped parts, all the mounting hardware is still available from toyota and not very expensive, though its likely you will have to order them and wait a couple weeks.

I lost mine once at 40. Flew back and a car behind me swerved and just missed being whammed in the windshield. Suprisingly, no scatches and it bolted right back down!

never lost my targa...

and it never coems lose either....

they're either not tightening it down hard enough, not in the right order, the hardware is worn out, of your chassis is screwy...

My RF works loose every 2 weeks or so. I will take a turn or hit a bump just right and hear the skueak. I know when I hear it that its time to snug the bolts again. The rears never need any retorque. The RF usually takes 2-3 turns. The LF may take .5-1.5 turns.
