I picked up a 86.5 today and cant get it started. i did the Fuel pump jumper test and the paperclip damn near burned my finger off. Think the fuel pump is dead? I hear a whirring but its coming from under the hood.

Try to track down that sound under the hood. You can sometimes hear the fuel flowing through the rail, but a "whirring"? That seems odd as well.
Are you certain somone hasn't added some cheapo universal inline pump somwhere?
malloynx said:the only thing that will cause that paperclip to get hot is not enough resistance. your wiring is jacked.

I use a small one so it fits easily into the jumper cavity. it also depends on how long you leave it in there.
There shoudl be whirring in the tank.. and you should hear fuel flowing thru the lines. Pretty easy to hear. You can grab the ruber return line and you'll feel the fuel flowing thru it.
I would say you've got other problems aside from the fuel pump.
