A guy I know put a ford 9" with a spool in his 99 camero and he said it was all new internals.

The first day driving he said it sounded horrible, whines and sometimes a ticking. He changed the fluid and it was full of shavings, fresh fluid and has same problem. It has about 300 miles on it now and still says it sounds a mess like the first day no change.

Thats not much to go on I know but if any more info is needed to take a guess I can ask. Does it sound like the spool was installed wrong or the rear end is just trashed?

He took it to a shop that is supposed to be pretty good. I have no idea if/how he broke it in. I could understand the noise being normal if it was the same noise, but the way he describes it as whining sometimes and other ticking sounds out of the norm.

Oh I forgot, when hes coasting(no gas or in N) it doesnt make any odd sounds, only when giving it power.

Ill ask next I see him what ratio and how he broke it in. I do know he used just normal fluid 85w90.

Take it back and get it re-shimmed...it isn't shimmed properly right now and most likely has messed up the gear.
