I want to check to make sure, but do the foglights only turn on when the headlights are up and the car is running. Or can I have the car off and turn on the headlights and the foglights.

Because I didn't start the car but I turned on the headlights but the foglights wouldn't come on. And since the engine is undergoing a headgasket fix I can't start it

So help would be appreciated.

Yeah fog lights only turn on when the car is on with the head lights up. Can be rewired so they can come on with out the head lights though

I fliped the headlights up and press the foglight switch and they aren't turning on. My fuse isn't blown and the foglights worked when I purchased the car.

Car was purchased a week and a half ago.
Foglights were working. Now they don't. I was thinking maybe one of the bulbs went out?

not in either of my cars that i've had. the one i have now is not wired up stock. its tapped into the front corner lights so they come on with the parking lights now.

but im positive the car does not need to be on.

The fog lights will work with the car off and the key out of the ignition. It does that in both of my 87's. Also I think that their is a CB(Circuit breaker) for the fogs but I could be wrong.

if you rewired by the SOGI write ups, then you tapped into the gauge fuse...guess what, key has to be on for them to come on (like mine, but I like it so I don't forget to turn em off like some cheap aftermarket ones)

My car is an '88. So could a bad bulb stop both from working or is it the wiring. My fuses are good. Haven't checked the relay switch yet. Mind you my foglights worked when I purchased the car.

if you have a friend with a supe try his switch. if that doesn't work check the wiring and the bulbs. takes 10 mins to remove them including taking the under covers off.

im glad i was right about something and some one confirmed it HAHA

Ok i'm doing the SOGI fog mod.

I've got an 86.5, and the difference i'm finding in the SOGI 87,88 and 89+ mod is that for some reason in the 87,88 in step 2 (of the link i provided). He says to find 'wire 2' white/green, and basically ground the relay. It makes absolutely no sense, so i haven't done it. It might be that i'm using
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/Library/TEWD/MK3/manual.aspx?S=Main&P=076, and maybe 86.5 is wired differently from the 89's TEWD which i read.

Please let me know if that step makes any sense, to me its simply having a relay that is always on. (defeating the purpose of modding the fog switch, which he does also).

Thanks

This maybe far fetch...but, your high beams aren't on are they? The fogs will turn off when the high beams are on. Just thought I would ask. I've seen threads titled "Help, my car won't start"....and low and behold, they were out of gas. Usually checking the obvious first is the key. Sorry if this offends you, but had to ask. Good Luck either way.

Update: In case someone is searching for help and finds this thread.
I just wired it up in a way that made sense, and long behond it worked. Btw, when i say in a way that made sense, it isn't like the way SOGI's link i posted earlier for 87,88. I later found out after the 87 didn't work, and also wiring it up myself, that there's a SOGI 86.5 method posted. AFAIK, it seems they take a rather long route.
If your car is 86.5 and similarly wired up (not random coloured wires), there's one pin for the relay that has two wires coming into it, i think they're blue and white wires, i basically cut those two wires away and connected the two cut wires together. As for the two wires going to the same pin of the relay, i connected that to 12v.
Finally, take i think the 4th wire (3rd from the top) of the fog light switch, i think it was red/black, and taped the side going into dashboard, and with the switch side just grounded it to chassis.

lol - that's pretty damn funny, but right on the money!

If you've rewired your foglights, they don't care about the highbeam setting any more, though.
