My flywheel is in need of machining. The shop tells me they figure they will have to take 20 thousands of an inch off. They say that they are worried that the amount they take off, may cause the clutch disk, to not reach the flywheel with my foot of the clutch and it may not fully engage, which is the problem i already had using an action 6 puck disk with a stock pressure plate. I have a spec 6 puck and pressure plate now, but i cant afford to be going through clutches every 5000 kms anymore. Any input?

Sounds like the machine shop has no clue (unless 2j fw's are different then all other toyota's)...

You remove the dowel pins and grind the clutch disk friction surface....you then move the fixture over and grind the surface that the pp mates too....that is if it's a stepped flywheel...if it's flat face then you grind the whole fw face "the whole thing!"....that will keep the pp and cd where they should be....the only issue is if the clutch pedal has enough adjustment to compensate for moving the whole clutch system .020" closer to the block....if this fw has been cut before then you may need another fw!

The shop should have all the specs for that on hand andtgey should only have said "yes we can grind it" or "no this fw is beyond it's limit"....the moment they say "I think" or "maybe" then go someplace else!

Guess what I'm saying is...it will reach and will always reach if cut properly...the real question is if the clutch slave will have enough travel.... .020" is about 8 pieces of paper stacked and that's fucking thin....you'll be fine but only if the shop knows what they are doing.

so it turns out they were worried becasue they had thought it had been resurrfaced before. I got it brand new, so there isnt any concern anymore. I called Randy and we disscused this, turns out its all good. Worried for nothing
