Spring is finally here and its starting to warm up in Wisconsin.....a little.......and I want to change all my fluids since I just got it my car this past January. So my car.......stock transmission, clutch, driveshaft, internals, and a 4.30 differential. I just have some quesitons on what fluids to use.

Starting off with motor oil, I've read in my magazines that Royal Purple can actually improve bearing surfaces?

I want to switch over to Toyota Red, but is there a certain process that I need to do in order to convert? Also, where can I find this coolant?

I'm going to be using OEM Toyota Oil Filters as well.

So just to recap... where can I get these fluids (Redline, Royal Purple)
1. What motor oil
2. What transmission fluid
3. What differential fluid
4. What coolant

Thank you

Royal Purple or Amsoil for everything. Check their websites out for more info. Toyota Red coolant can only be gotten from Toyota.

You car came with regular 'green' coolant. It has everything in it to do the job. I stick with it. I also run a bottle of 'Lubegard KOOL IT '. You can read about it on their site.:biglaugh:

You can get the phosphated coolant at the dealer. I run HOAT G-05 in mine. Either will do. I'm not a fan of high silicate coolant but the green stuff is lower in silicates these days. Keep in mind the color of a coolant means little, it's just dye. Best to learn about coolants rather than go by color.

I won't get into lubricants because it's a personal choice so I'll just say what I currently use: German Castrol 0-30 in the engine and lubricants from Specialty Formulations in the drivetrain.

True on the colors. I just read that Ford and Chrysler are dying theirs Yellow, and it has silicates AND oats (organics). All this variety and changing tells me 'they' really don't know what they are doing.

Change your coolant, whatever kind you use, every 2 years to be safe.

I second that. Change it every two years. Change that little rubber cap behind the turbo at the same time ;)

mrnickleye, any opinion on Death Cool or it's clones? Some swear by it and some swear at it. I've heard it's OK as long as there's no air in the system but I doubt I'd use it in the Supra

Buddy of mine is a master mechanic on some high end cars down in Scottsdale...he hates the stuff. Says it causes all kind of problems gumming up the radiator & water pump. Trys to get the customer to change it out as soon as he sees it and he has plently of business, so it's not for the profit factor.

Thanx jdub. Yeah, I've heard it'll sludge up if there's air in the system but lots of people seem to have zero problems with it. It was the first of the straight organic technologies. I'm still scared of the stuff though, that's why I use hybrid organics. I'm too cheap to pay for the toyo stuff ;)

Me too! And the way our cooling systems are about getting air at some time or the other...well, no friggin way I'll use it.

This same guy was trained by Toyota and he bought (and still owns) an '89 Turbo brand new. he still has contacts so he gets me the Toyota red for free :biglaugh:
