I recently bought a nice 90 turbo supra. The kid I bought it from didnt know much about it except the turbo went bad on him after a couple weeks and the turbo was bypassed. He wasnt a supra guy. I removed the turbo and the only thing I found that was done was the oil pipe was removed and a block off plate was on the block where the oil pipe was. There is no impeller on either side of the shaft to spin. I'm guessing both were removed so air could flow through without any spooling? I was suprised how well it ran that way. I'll be sending the turbo off soon for a rebuild. Anyone dealt with this before? Any issues I might run into after something like this was done?

pics?? ive never heard of that before. the main question is what went bad? did the bearing wear out, did he crack the housing, did the fan blades melt/brake off? might be cheaper in the long run to just get another turbo, maybe even go for a upgraded turbo.

I'll get a pic of the turbo up. I asked him what happened when the turbo went. I described what might happen if bearings went bad and he seemed to think that might have been it. He gave me a box of parts from the guy he bought the car from and there is another complete turbo. It has alot of play in the shaft. I would like to pick which turbo is better condition and send it to driftmotion for a rebuild/upgrade. The car seems pretty tight otherwise.

Thought I would put up the pics of the turbos I have. The one with no blades is the one I pulled from the car. I am just curious what they did as Ive never had a turbo before or seen one apart. Anyone seen anything like this? The car ran decent, although I only ran it enough to pull it on the trailer then off and into the garage. The one with the blades was the extra turbo that came with the car. It has a lot of play in the shaft but turns freely. The other pic is of the block off plate where the oil pipe went. The oil pipe was in the box. Out of the two, I am thinking I should send the one with the blades for rebuild.
