so, some time ago i picked up a set of MKIV TT rims. i just got my tires delivered today, and i brought them along with the rims to a reputable shop in my town to be mounted and balanced.

apparently, one of the rear (9.5" wide) rims is cracked and will not hold air. is there any way to fix this? anyone ever have this problem before? thanks for any suggestions. if this is not safely repairable, then i guess i'll be looking for another single 9.5" TT rim. :(

thanks,

ah hell. :( i was so excited today, too. now it's raining and i'm angry. i was really looking forward to my new rim/tire combo. i wonder how good the chances are of finding a single MKIV rim for sale. :(

haha. i sure hope so. (laughing at the old woman part)

so i just called the garage back, and the crack is close to where the bead seals on the tire. i think i'm going to try to get it welded. at least for now. i'm running low on funds as of late, and unless i get a wicked deal on another rim, welding will do for now.

a good shop can fix it for you. i had to do one on my old wheels before-and mine was phsically cracked and bent to where you can see it. No problems with the wheel ever.

Find a GOOD wheel repair shop and ask them about high speed, treatments, and what kind of work they do.

If you got it repaired at Alberta Wheel Repair here in Calgary, I'd have no hesitation using it at high speed, they have done amazing work on so many wheels, and I would trust them with it.

Plus if it's just cracked enough that it won't hold air, but you can't really see any damage, chances are the structure of the wheel is still intact, so welding it to fix the crack wouldn't be an issue either.

In any case, something to check into, if not, I'm sure you can find a wheel in the $200 range somewhere.

i brought the rim to two different places today, and nobody wants anything to do with it. so far, not so good. the garage i brought them to already mounted the other three tires and balanced them, so if i get a new rim, it's a crapshoot at matching the color. that's going to drive me insane. :(

a single wheel in the $200 range is expensive, considering i paid like $450 shipped for all four of mine. :( (or thereabouts)

i don't know of any rim repair shops around here, much less any with a reputation that precedes them, such as it sounds as Alberta Wheel Repair's does. if i can't find anyplace, jeff, would you list their contact info?

i have no problem sending a wheel to canada to get it repaired. thanks,
