Ive had my 1990 7M-GTE in peaces.I found a crack in my bellhousing ?
And got a used one from a friend that was from an R154.Engine and tranny are done and dropped in the car.Now i cant bolt on the front bellhousing cover and the 2 bracket that support the lower end of the tranny to the block

Now im wondering where this bellhousing is from, and if the is a difference from the first mk3's to the latest?

Here it is with the new bellhousing fitted

Not the best quality, but you get the picture

bottom right.facing the rear the 3 left holes line up,except the right one as you can see.so neither the cover or bracket fit the top right hole

Did you try flipping the lower plate around the other way? You should be able to get the brackets and plate on no problem.

Agreed. That's the only difference I can think of. I can't imagine there are two different bellhousings that will mate the 7M/R154 properly.

I've tried that ofcourse. No difference.Thats not the biggest problem though. The bracket fits a 100% on the cover where it sits on the pictures.so even if the cover would fit, which it dosen't.the bracket is off by about 2 cm on the top hole.

Thats why i cant figure this out.Ill take a picture later today so you can see what i mean.I have a feeling the bellhousing is from another car that has the r154 stock

I recomend you throw that OBX crank pulley away as it will cause your motor to eat it's own bearings! Hate to see you out so much work into your engine just for it to fail.

You sure that is not a " automatic " inspection cover. They're different.

Manual and auto are different.

As stated above, get rid of that OBX pulley, unless you plan on running no belts and you had it balanced to the crank.

Our crank pulleys are harmonic dampeners too, the OBX doesn't have the dampener...

Where did you source the lower inspection cover and side wings?

What pulley is that Poodles,price?

What do you mean by source? like where did i get em from?

Everything has come from this car. These are parts im re-installing after overhaul/paint.The only thing that came from another car was the bellhousing

Heres a couple more pics. And the bracket or side wing as you call it

Really weird, maybe one of the truck bellhousings?

You only have 2 options for the crank pulley, stock or ATI...

But would a truck's R series bell housing really fit the 7m's top 4 holes?

Not sure, but it's about the only thing that makes any sense. I don't recalle the trucks ever having pull style clutches though...

Actually ive lost my old one.But i dont wanne spend another 5 hours grinding down another housing, chameleon paint etc etc......

So last night i added another section to the cover, and started extending the side wing to fit the top right hole.easy enough

What about drilling the ends of the crack on your old bellhousing and welding it? That is depending on how bad the crack is.

Hope those brackets that go from the block to the housing still bolt up...I'd hate to see your trans go skipping down the highway!

Tell you what homeslice....I'll give you the damn bell housing aslong as you pay shipping....I don't want to see you ghetto rig your car...but you must promise to throw the obx pulley in the scrap bin.

I did a AT-MT swap and had a similar issue with the passenger side wing bracket not lining up either. After bolting the bracket to the block, everything lined up fine except for the very bottom of the bracket which was a good 1/2" from the bellhousing. I snapped one in half trying to torque it in. I ended up just using 2 lockwashers behind it to make it snug.

I asked around on the forums and nobody seemed to know what was up. I think I saw somewhere that 87-88 & 89-92's used different wing brackets on the passenger side. Not sure if there is any truth to that, but it would explain the issue I had.
