Hey SM,
I recently purchased an mkIII. Its an 87 7mgte with the r154. I bought it knowing it had rod knock, and planned on rebuilding the motor. I have decided that I would like to aim for the 400rwhp range with this rebuild. The block, head, and crank are going to the machine shop next weak for inspection and machine work. I am currently about 3/4 of the way down with my 9 second dsm build so I am trying to keep this project on a $2000 budget. I was hoping some of you who are more familiar with this vehicle and motor could help me out.
Here is the list of parts I know I need, maybe you guys can fill in the blanks.

INTERNALS:
I have read that stock internals will support the 400hp mark so I will be using new stock internals.

HEAD:
I will be leaving the head alone.
Possibly a set of cams?
ARP head studs and metal hg.

FUEL:
Aeromotive AFPR
RX-7 550cc injectors
Bosch 044 inline fuel pump

ELECTRONICS/ENGINE MANAGMENT
Lexus AFM
Boost guage
AEM WB
I need some advice on what engine management would be best suited for this project.

TURBO/INTERCOOLER:
Here is where I need some help. I have read that the stock ct-26 is good for 400hp and I have also read that its only good for 300hp.
Also, what are the limits of the stock intercooler? I know I will at least need new hard pipes.

EXHAUST:
I will be making a 3" turbo back w/o a cat.

Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Justin

This car is not your DSM! It is a fat pig. At this stage, you should be sure 400 is going to be enough for you. It will be a pretty quick street car, but still a 12-13 second car at 400.

You will need some sort of tuning devise (SAFC, NEO, ETC). You are also going to want to get a better intercooler, and larger piping.

The only way you will get 400 out of the CT-26 is to have it rebuilt and upgraded to at least a 57 trim. You can get away with a 60-1, but steer clear of the 61.

So far, it appears you have done pretty good homework. But, take your budget, and double it at least. Don't worry about cams for that power.

Haha I'm definetly not expecting it to run like my 900awhp dsm will. But I want what you said, a reasonably quick street car.

I should have mentioned, I already have the following parts:
Afpr
Rx-7 injectors
Bosch fp
All engine gaskts
Arp studs
Internals
Boost guage
AEM WB.
The $2k is for the rest of the parts.
I also have an safc2 somewhere.

So hopefully I can work with this budget.

slap bigger turbo on, metal hg and head studs new intercooler, safc, fuel pump and blam ur there.

Actually, I have an extra holset hx-40 that I originally bought for my talon build, but decided to go with the hx-52 instead. I could run that I suppose.
