FFIM Picture request

Couldn't find exactly what I need. Can anyone with an FFIM take a picture of the hole they cut out (wherever they did it) where the battery used to be prior to their mod? I am planning on keeping the A/C so I'm relocating the battery and I need a good shot of the hole.

Also, does anyone else with a targa model have a shot of how they moved the battery to the trunk without getting rid of the spare tire? I know a few here did it but all I've found are written explanations. Pictures make everything that much easier.

And final question, one that I know has been answered thousands of times (but might as well make use of this thread), but what guage wire should I use for the battery?

Thanks in advance.

4 agw will work (it is what I use) but if I would do it over or recommend a size I would go with at least 2 agw if not 0/1 agw. Always nice to have the safety factor. This is a case where bigger is better ;)

Yea, I agree that's what I'd put in my car but I feel 4ga is sufficient for most. I've seen people with 8ga for the relocation and they were fine, surprisingly. I think 4ga is like.. My standard.

However, it may not have answered his questions or provided the specific response he was seeking. I saw that thread and yes, similar, but not exact. Let's give everyone a chance to ask before we make more duplicate posts complaining of duplicate threads than there are actual duplicate threads..

Thanks everyone! Specially for the shots of the intake mani. Those were the kinds of pictures I was looking for, exactly. Though the shots of people routing the IC pipes under the headlights really makes me wonder just how close they're cutting it with clearance, but I'll PM IJ for that.

As for the battery wires, I know it's been asked thousands of times, but I specified in my very first post "one that I know has been answered thousands of times (but might as well make use of this thread)"

I know that a month ago one member was relocating his battery and he too had a targa model, and 2 other members were helping him out but I can't remember his username for the life of me. I'll look tonight once I get home from work.

Thanks Mike. To add to this, telling someone to search without passing along tested search terms is a no-no.

4awg is more than sufficient. Keep in mind the stock wires aren't that large, so this is already an improvement. 2 or 0 is overkill.

Remember to fuse it as close to the positive terminal as you can and grommet anywhere that it passes through the body.

Here is a picture of my Battery box. I actually cut the deck in the back so it would recess some. I am also using 2-gauge wire. The spare tire space is open still.

I am going to do my piping like whitemike did . That is Clean and looks simple.

2: almost identical to voodoo

3: i used 2awg multi-strand. i also ran pos/neg length of car. never been a fan of grounding right at the batt in the hatch.

Can't take off the targa top that way though. I'm thinking about placing the battery as close to the back seat as possible, maybe laying on its side (Optimas) and cutting out a section of the wooden panel. Thanks for the wire answers though. I'll pay a visit to one of the nearby sound centers.

Np, I feel that too many people shut others down when they're just adding to the problem.

I think 4awg is fine, but I also consider the length of wire needed to run it under the carpet and trim, etc. Length adds to resistance, resistance lowers voltage.. or something like that :icon_wink

Also, +1 on the fuse, I think your max should be like, 12" away from the terminal.

Pardon the mess... this works, the top fits in overtop.

Hell, you could cut down the box, it's actually higher than it needs to be.

Ideally, I'd put the fuse *inside* the battery box.

^^ Looks exactly like where I plan to mount mine. I've already test-fit the targa and it does fit. Is that a Taylor battery box?

I don't think so, the Taylor ones have their name stamped in the top, as I recall. I'm not sure what brand this one is, it came with the car. There's a damn good chance I'll switch this one out for something composite, like a moroso.

You know, you did exactly what I thought about doing after I saw the current condition of the wooden plank yesterday on the car, removing it completely. I'm going to talk to my uncle about repainting the trunk since it's very dirty and needs some stitching.

The whole thing with tiny batteries is great, but in Puerto Rico no one actually sells them without ordering them from stateside. And, well, if my battery dies on me, I'll get frustrated for being stuck over such a simple thing. Thanks to everyone, but I'm going to go with GrimJack's idea. It has Okham's razor written all over it.

So Grim, since my electrical knowledge is almost zero, mind explaining what "fusing the battery" means? Not sure if it's what I believe it is.

I think he is talking about putting a fuse within 18" of the battery (the closer the better). This is a good idea when running a power cable the length of the car. The problem is that the starter runs off of this cable and it draws a lot of current. Personally, I am planning on running a 150-amp circuit breaker.
