Doing a FFIM on my 7MGTE, goin from 2 1/2 inch intercooler piping to 3", but don't know if i should rock a 4" core intercooler or 3" core. turbo is a CT26 57Trim.
Any advise?
comes with the setup im getting, figured id use it, he used it with a ct26 60-1... tryin to avoid lag so trying to find best options for quick spool. what u think about the intercooler?
For a 57 trim, a ffim and 4" IC are way too much for that turbo. There are many better ways to spend that money. Get a smaller IC for less lag, and don't go FFIM unless you plan on a larger turbo in the future.
ffim is purely bling unless your making a high hp application. as well as the 4" core intercooler, 3" is good to like 600rwhp so why go 4" your going to have so many clearance issues and have to relocate more infront of your car. I almost made this mistake, stock turbos DO not need a bigger intercooler. New is good but you don't want to over-do it at all.
like i said, i bought it as a kit not by choice and looking for advice if i should use the 4" intercooler and 3" pipes, or 3" intercooler with 2 2/1" pipes im at 400whp now
2.5 inch piping with a 3 inch core
2.5 will allow good air floor without restricting your spool time anymore than that you'll lag and just like above ^^ 3 inch core is plenty and modifying the the front to relocate things just to get a bigger ic in wont be fun lol
put it in the for sale section, sounds like your kit wasn`t much of a bargain lol it would of been good if you had a big single and injectors plus an air fuel controller because it would help for making big numbers. I`m running a 3 inch core with 2.5 inch piping and I`m at about 400 rwhp my self and if I ever decide to start over I`m probably going to keep it the same and worry more about new exhaust/downpipe/manifold and two bigger turbos, I rebuilt my stock twins but their basically useless with my cams
yeah unless you plan to ditch the c26 turbo for something bigger the intercooler is overkill. but you definately have enough supporting mods to go that way.
