Hello everyone. I will be making some fender braces for my supra tomorrow and will post pics as they come along. Is this something others might also be interested if made available to purchase? (less than $200 powder coated)

Thanks,

Sean

Put 20 years on a spot welded together piece of sheet metal and it will start to flex.

That makes sense, but are we talking about stiffening-up the chassis with this brace or ?

I'm in no way being negative, I'm just a little unclear on what the goal is here. :icon_conf

Would be intersting to see if they take some of the targa flex out.

I went back to the pictures and looked again, I can't see how this would help a targa, since the problem there is no triangulation (where the removable panel comes out), and this clearly is not meant to address that.

I'm sure there's something here, I'm just not sure what.

Ill just post what I did on the other forum...

Chassis reinforcement.
Crash protection.

This car was equipped with chassis braces and was crashed into a wall almost head on at Irwindale. You can see the damage was lessened as without the braces, the fender area would be smashed into itself.

And another member added:

Fender braces help to maintain caster, and to support the strut tower front to rear by tying it into the A-pillar. They also support the middle of the body, to keep it from sagging in the middle.

Operative term for today DOUBLE A ARM...... :nono:
So since we have a pretty good suspension on these stock as far as dynamics means bracing the chassis will do nothing?

Remember the less flex your chassis has the more efficient the rest of your suspension can be. Especially with a double wishbone, since it operates effectively by itself to hold many different perimeters.

Thanks. That is really not that funny. The wishbone suspension is not whats at question here. Its the bracing nothing more. I do work directly with an independant test source that these will be tested thourghly in the spring when the track is nice and clear.

actually, the sus design IS what's in question here. in a double wishbone setup, the chassis is not performing nearly the work it would in a mac strut setup....that's the reason you see the braces make such a huge difference in those apps.
