fcd help

Im deciding on fcd and read that the HKS has preset settings. I want to use something that can be adjusted just above the boost levels. Any recommendations? How about the turbo xs?

I know the TurboXS FCD does not work with the 89 ecu because there is no rpm signal wire. The HKS type 3 does work by removing fuel cut protection all together. However, I hear there are better ways of getting around fuel cut.(adding more fuel).

I agree it can be a bad idea, I also have the HKS FCD type 3 and mine has a car specific setting, but no way that I know of to raise fuel cut, it only eliminates it?...:3d_frown: I may be wrong and I hope I am??... It would not be the first time.. LOL

The best help you can get with a FCD is be told not to use it.

The reason im interested is because it cuts off at 10 psi. I want to set it at 11 psi and not disable is alltogether . Thanks folks for the help

Well the reason to use a FCD is to have a good turbo boost controller to go with it...and a REALLY accurate wastegate/spring combo. Bascially any aftermarket external waste gate is better than the factory system.

You just have to think ahead. Nothing really BAD about the FCD, people tend to freak out about the "what if's"....

What if's....LOL. Basically just insecurity due to a lack of understanding of the product.

Just run the darn thing with a ELECTRONIC BOOST CONTROLLER with a NEW WASTEGATE (whatever your set up may be). You should be MORE than fine.

I'm with Porterz, MAF-T worked wonders for me. I've run the HKS FCD, the Lexus AFM + 550's, and MAF-T. MAF-T was the most tunable and safest, not to mention the other benefits of it.

I ran an HKS FCD and mbc for two years on my 89 without a problem. Engine was fine when disassembled plugs were always burning nicely no problems here.

But was it adjustable? Can you raise and lower your FC point? I looked at HKS site and all they say is that it raises FC but I think that FC is eliminated entirely...

I once heard from a reputable source that the FCD leans out your A/F ratio by 15-25%. If that is true then it just might be a "bad" thing.

"Think ahead" and don't use a FCD.

Throw it away. If you want to tweak Fuel cut, remove the al pulg over the stock AFM screw and back it out until you don't hit FC at your desired boost.

Actually alot of guys run aftermarket wastegates with stock turbo's, not really in the supra realm though, mostly just Honda's and DSM's. You can get them from Garrett/HKS/Turbonetics etc.

But I agree that really there is no point in doing that.

Might was well go with a new turbo and external set up.
