Engine is out of the car, so no starter trick. It was removed before this way to do the water pump and timing belt, but now it's out and I didn't use the starter before hand :-/. I have tried a penetrating oil, and a (crappy) impact. I have beat on it with a hammer as well. All while trying various length bars. Today I finally was like "akjdnakwd" and took one of the legs off the engine hoist. 5+ feet long of bar. I had 2 friends stand on the engine to keep it from coming my way, and pushed down on the bar. The breaker bar I had actually twisted and broke. I obviously had enough oomph from the hoists leg, but it's still stuck on there. Any tips? I don't need the bolt.. I just need everything that it is blocking me from getting. I don't have a torch, or a grinder. But if need be I can get one I am sure. I have a drill though, could I drill it out somehow? I don't know what drilling the center of the bolt would do, if anything :-/

Are you sure you're turning it the right way? I used an impact on the 1j's crank bolt since the mofo is ON there (I believe the torque spec is over 200ft-lbs, last I saw printed in the TSRM), and I couldn't pop the thing by hand. About the only thing I've ever had to use an impact on, worked like a charm. What's the torque capacity of the impact you were using? In my case it wasn't a strength issue, it was a speed issue. i couldn't deliver enough torque to the ratchet fast enough to break the bolt...

Put it in the back of the truck and take it to a tire store that has a 3/4 drive impact wrench used on large trucks. Gaurantee it would be off with one pull of the trigger!

You don't want to do it like that anyway.

If you managed to bend a five foot bar, either the bar is worthless and weak, or only an impact and its vibration will get it done. Attached is the tool used with a breaker bar when you don't have an impact.

ours was on a stand.. boyfriend went to the store and bought a long piece of metal with a center hole in the end and two places for bolts.. bolted it to the other side of the motor so when you tried to turn the crank bolt the metal would act as a counter on the other side when it got stuck on the stand.. came lose very easily

currently am 150 miles away from the house so i'm waiting on him to send a pic of homemade tool.. :)

take it to a shop. I took mine to a toyota dealership and they had to pull out the 'big gun' to get it off. They did it for free which was cool.
