Whats a good diameter piping for a stock or bpu 1jz? Also, I've been looking at the blitz nur spec and aeroturbine (from hpf) mufflers. How do these sound? I dont want to sound like a loud rice burner... -_-

thx

i'd recommend 3'' piping. the blitz nur nor the aeroturbine sound ricy. both mufflers have a deep throaty note at idle and great sound under boost.

For reference my Tanabe with the china Y pipe/DP and no cats has a similar tone to a G35/350z, but quite a bit louder.

And I will say this, the 1j is no where close to sounding like the 7m did through the same exhaust. The 7m is nice and lumply with a hint of muscle car where the 1j sounds like a race car.

Hm, and do you have a 1jz or 7m? Cause I LOVE the sound of the g35 and 350z.

3" piping with a magnaflow FTW. my magnaflow is straight though, no baffles, nothing, you can look right though it. and of course it flows like mad. on my 7m the sound is DEEP. but i love it.

My camera sucks, but here is a vid I made. Unfortunately I made it when the car wasnt quite warmed up either, and IMO it sounds better when warmed up.

Mmm, that sounds very nice. Does it drone at all on the highway?

It didnt with the 7m, but the 1j does have a bit of drone to it. But its less drone than about every other modded car I have been in. Plus I dont have any insulation on the floors or anything in the hatch area to absorb the sound.

Its real mellow when its not boosting, but when the WG's open it sounds close to a divorced WG setup.

But if your interested in the Tanabe call Robert@935motorsports he should be able to get you one.

And where do you get a downpipe for a 1j?

i have the hks system on my car, that one with twin tips. is anybody running this with the 1jz?

I have that exhaust. I love the sound. I have the 3" y/downpipe, 3" testpipe, and of course the HKS turbo cat-back. It sounds mean but not overpowering.

Haha, my brother and I made a custom exhaust for his Volvo using the same muffler, and it sounded sexy, even on a 2.1L 4 cyl. Sort of loud, but the muffler was mounted right behind the engine bay, about 2 feet from the turbo outlet. Quieted down a lot after we stuck another 4 feet of 3" pipe after it.

My 1JZ came over from japan with a Blitz Realize TT exhaust system. With a gutted cat, and chinaman y pipe/dp, it has a VERY low, and fairly mellow exhaust note, and sounds soooo nice when you step on it.

I would recommend the exhaust, but it's expensive as hell, and very difficult to find these days for MKIIIs.

I have a 90 7M-GTE powered car with basic bolt on stuff and got a Blitz NUR spec cat back system with an HKS DP and HKS high flow cat and it sounds very deep and aggressive, not too loud and not rice at all very good tone, sounds like a lot of MK4 exhausts.
