i installed a mhg, valve seals (whatever came with the complete rebuild set from toyota), ported the head, and reassembled with the greddy turbo upgrade.

its been a year since and now the bolts that hold the exhaust cam were loose? i mean 8 were finger loose with some 1/4 of the way out. wft did i do? or is this more common than i think? should i use locktite on them this time? or just put them in 5-10 ft/lbs tighter than tsrm? maybe something else caused this and i want to know so i can remedy this.

any help would be appriciated? i'll be outside lookin for anything else but i'll be back periodicly.

thanks,
thomas

dont over torque those bolts. i had a head rebuilt and the guy over torqued them and a few thousand miles later i ended up with a hunk of scrap aluminum in my back yard.

Why the hell didn't they use bearings anyway?

Theres no cam bearings? wtf? And as for the loctite, I wouldnt recommend it. If you're concerned with them coming loose again why dont you just grab some new bolts and check out the inside threads. The spec torque is supposed to keep them in place, Maybe someone didnt torque them to spec before. Maybe check them in a week or 2 to make sure they're still at spec.

i dont know what the benefits are but i know jaguar, and other high end engines use the same type of cam set up.

yeah you can ruin a head pretty easily, but it dosnt seem to happen to often. its not an issue if everything is done right.

thanks for the replies everyone! i went ahead and left them at 14 ft/lbs without locktite this time. if (i hope not) by chance it happens again, then i'll try cleaning it all up and locktite or a thin lock washer. i just wasnt sure if i was commiting an already verified no no. i make enough mistakes without having to copy others. im sure i'll make some anyways, but i'll try to keep that to a minimum. :)

thanks again. . .
