I have been having this problem for the last few years. While driving there is rattling in the rear, a lot of it. It sounds like the car is going to fall apart at any given minute. Do any of you know what I need to do to fix it. I'm not sure what the cause is.

Check exhaust for broken or missing hangers, or if its been bottomed out. Could be touching the rear subframe. Also check all your bushings(control arms, subframe, etc.) Check for loose or missing bolts and shields as well.

Thanks for the input. I plan to check that out this weekend. If anyone else has additional input, please feel free to add on to what has been said so far. Thanks for the advise everyone.

Your rear hatch latch probably needs adjusting+new hatch bumpers.

How on Earth do you adjust the hatch latch? I've tried a few times to look at it and all I see is a big countersunk screw that allows *maybe* 1mm of "adjustment", but everyone talks like you can wildly vary it's placement.

Am I missing something because my hatch rattles like mad and its driving me insane...

Push down on the rubber bumper stops. If you see a crack in the rubber then that's the cause of your rattle. You can get those from Toyota. They are about $15.00 a piece. The screws are locktighted in there so be VERY careful because the heads will strip out very easy. I had to press all my weight against the screwdriver and turn very slowly till it broke loose. If you are lucky, and I do mean lucky, you might have bolts instead of phillips head screws.
