would there be enough juice in the stock electrical setup in the supra to keep an xbox running? about how long after a shutdown until i should be worried about switchin it off?

im looking into modding up another xbox and popin linux on it and using "wine" (windows emulator) to run the tunerpro software for the maftpro.

all built in of course. im not sure on what i would use as a screen for the whole deal, but i like to do xbox mods and thought it would be interesting.

im sure i can pull off a few more uses out of this also, like wardriving! and mp3player!

any car you put alot of electronics in will drain your battery if its not running I had to jump a guy with a mazda b/c he was playing some video game in his car and killed his battery, I dont see why you would want to put videogames in a supra, but what ever floats your boat

You may run into quite a few problems with this setup. An XBOX running Linux is fine, but then you need X installed and a stripped down window manager (like flux or xfce), that's ok too. But if you're running software that interacts with hardware (ie tunerpro going over USB or serial) there might be issues there. The XBOX doesn't have a serial port...it does however have USBesque ports. You just need to mod an old xbox controller and follow some wiring diagrams online. You then need a keyboard/mouse that's USB...so This might start to get tricky. Lastly, what type of screen are you going to hook it up to? Unless you have a touchpanel or LCD (both expensive)...You're looking at an expensive project :)

If you're looking at building a carputer, you're best off using a nanoITX motherboard/cpu combo from VIA. That's what I did, got a specially designed DC-DC power supply, HD out of a laptop, wifi adapter, and wrote some software to interface with a small USB LCD display w/ buttons.

Looking back at it though, you're best off buying an old laptop and getting a power adapter that plugs into the cig port =)

Good advice. You don't have to get quite that fancy though, there are small touch screen lcds that hook up like a regular monitor and mouse.. then get a wireless low profile keyboard or something.

This is what you're looking for in a board
http://cgi.ebay.com/EPIA-Nano-ITX-M...oryZ1244QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Power Supply, aren't too many designed for use in a car:http://cgi.ebay.com/M1-ATX-DC-DC-AT...ryZ80172QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Now, hard drive is up to you. if you want it small, go with a laptop or even thumb sized hard drive. Just make sure you mount it in a shock resistant or suspended encloser...hard drives don't like to be knocked around.

And ram, i'm sure you have some lying around or have a nerd buddy who does =)

But you're looking at around ~450$ to get it all together, and a ton of work. Search around for an old laptop, and mount it sneakily like in the glove box!

do have to admit thought, an onboard computer sounds like this shit!@

mount it in the spare tire locaztion and have the wire's run to the glove box, mount the lcd touch screen where it pushes out or just get a dvd player deck and use the screen they come built in with ,

I mounted mine in the spare DIN under my CD player =) Thankfully the supra has a lot of room (quite a bit of depth) inside the stereo area.

for storage, you can even use a thumb drive. ive seen 2GB thumb drives selling for CDN$17 recently. i have a 1GB that I paid CDN$10 for. 32GB and 64GB flash drives will be dropping in price pretty quick too.

TobyCat, id like to see your setup sometime, we should get some other local supras together for a meet in the spring.
