So i blew the HG this spring. That was expected. At first i decided to replace the HG and thats all. But it's been a while that i was thinking to do a complete 7m overhaul and to remove some of the flaws. I didn't want to park my car for a long time, because it's my DD car. I came across a rhd mk3 and decided to take a gamble. I know, i know, that's not the smartest way of doing things, but i just hope it will run for a while. Atleast until i overhaul my old one.Bought the engine, got a time window in a friends hangar and began to work.
Needed to reroute some coolant lines and do some changes in the wiring, but everything prety much went in without any problems.
There were some exhaust manifold warpage issues, but other that that, everything is ok.
At the same time, i completely removed the a/c system. It worked, but had a leak somewhere. Also, i'm not a fan of a/c. Even if i drive a new car i turn the a/c off. I prefer windows down driving. Also, the engine will spin a bit more freely without one belt. Not to mention a bit better cooling for the rad. A big thanks to my friends for letting me use their space and for all their help. I doubt that i could have done this myself. Well, maybe in a month, but not in a few days.
Oh, yeah, i also cut out the cathalytic converter, because it was a bit clogged and replaced it with a resonator.
So, my baby was road worthy again. Then i moved the old engine to a smaller garage and began to work on it.
I'm not planing to up the hp on this motor, but it will be build to safely handle a bit more. Just in case i ever want it. I took everything apart and started to make a plan what to do. So, the crank was measured and polished. The head and the block were decked. Everything was measured. Pistons were fine. I will be ordering a metal HG, arp studs, a gasket set and a full clevite bottom end bearing set. Other than that everything else is fine. Now i'm still searching for the best deals for parts and saving money to order them.
That's that for now.
