well i put some oil in my cylinders today and turned the engine to see if i had any marks from maybe condensation or coolant from the bhg but nothing... the engine turned with so much ease like it was brand new and there were no marks no heat marks no scores no nothing..... since its an 87 should i still have the crank balenced and polished? i know that the cylender walls dont have much to do with the crank but is this a good omen?

I am not quite sure what you are talking about. You did a wet compession test?

And you want to know if you need to polish and balance the crank? If you do a teardown, you will see if the crank needs to be polished.

ok what im saying is that the last guy who had the car tore the engine all the way down to the block, he left the pistons exposed to the enviroment... as soon as i got time i put oil on top of the pistons to make sure no condinsation could cause any problems with the cylender walls... while i did this i went ahead and turned the engine too look and see if the pistons had left a lip in the cylinder wall and to see if there was any scoring or heat marks... the cylinder walls were clean, it looked like bran new.... i just dont know if i want to tear it down all the way now

Is there any water comming out of the pan?

How do the threads for the head studs look - fubar or good?

If what I just said - Water and the the threads are fubar - time for a rebuild my friend.

MCD - Take a look at Bama's previous thread:
http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19533
The pics show the condition of the car when he got it.

Bama - If you asking should you pull the block or not...I'd pull the block out of the car just to paint over that god awful color :aigo:

Seriously though, what MCD is trying to get across is if there was any water intrusion in the pan, cylinders, etc the block is fubar. Pull it, look for signs of water damage, check the bearing clearances with a flex gauge. Otherwise you are taking a chance with a motor you really know nothing about. The 7M will develop rod knock in a heartbeat with contaimated oil or worn bearings.

I grew up in AL...with the humidity the way it is there, that motor would be on a stand with me going over it with a fine tooth comb. And I'd paint the block...lol.

But, it's your motor...might work for you to leave it as is...or you may have to learn the hard way like a lot of us here have ;)

Thanks Jdub...

Yes if there is any water in the pan you're pretty much fubar. Oil floats on water - Water hits bearings - Poof.

Btw, I recognize that lime green engine. I cant place though who was building that thing years ago..... some one on sf.com
