89 was a weird year. look at your ecu, and it will have yellow plugs. the 90+ cars had grey plugs and there were some changes to the ecu and harness. 89 was the transition year. ive seen early 89 cars with yellow and grey plugs. why not just order a new one from toyota?

When you say you seen early 89 supras came with yellow plugs do you mean the car looks just like a 90+supra because Im looking for a chasis wiring harness and I see one on ebay but it from a 89 supra but I think I see yellow plugs on it and I would like to use it on my 87 supra. Thanks in advance:biglaugh:.

Hi,

The ecu of a 88 and 89 are the same, or have different connectors for the ecu or sensors?

Because I want to change my old damage engine wiring harness of my 88 supra, for a 89+ one.

thanks

you will rum into problems doing this.

1: As MKIIINA has stated, the '89 is a transitional year. So by using an '89 harness in the '88 you will also need the ecu from an 89+

2:Also, the '89+ harness has different style plugs. For ex: the csi time switch and coolant temp sensor has the rounded style plug, as opposed to the square style as seen on the pre '89. So you'll either have to switch sensors or cut and solder the old clips.

The in-dash plugs(besides ecu) should be plug 'n' play on the '89 only, 90-92 has different plugs and will not work on anything but 90-92(thats my experiance) You should just try to source a good used '88 harness and save yourself the headaches. Maybe post a WTB thread, I sure there are plenty floating around and collecting dust. Last I checked, the dealer(in my area anyway) wanted like $700 for one. Just a heads up to ya.
