That's called a blown engine.

Rods, bearings, something in the reciprocating mass is screwed. No matter what it is, you need to pull the engine and examine the internals.

If this is a Supra the problem is in red.

It's probably rod knock.

Hold it at 6000 rpm until the failed part falls out on the ground ... saves disassembly time:biglaugh: and simplifies diagnosis

I can see another supra meeting its grave soon...
Come on guys a little "thumping" doesn't hunt anybody now and then.:)

I think he's got more problems than rod knock if it's "thumping" instead of "tapping"

simplest ting to check before you pull the engine is to make sure the harmonic balancer bolt is tight. if it backs out a litttle the pulley will wobble at lower rpms especially and it will sound like a low frequency thump. get under the car and crank it down to 195 FTlbs. if it has been loose too long it will damage the snout of the crank and it will just pretty much wobble all the time even when the 7m bolt is tight. if your bolt is backing out it may be best to buy a new one. if you have to rebuild do get a shop to inspect your cranck snout and balancer to make sure it is a snug fit.

i think its rod knock(but the engine only have 155k miles). when the car is running if u put ur head under the car or low to the ground u can really hear something hitting the oil pan or something in that area.
