I am changing a non-turbo automatic to a turbo 5 speed in a 87 MK111 and bought a JDM ebay engine trans package from Canada and got screwed. Bid on an assembled engine trans with seller note "this picture is the stuff you are bidding on" but the engine came with an auto trans flexplate and wiring harness, and the ECU has all the labels scratched off. Questions are: 1) can I use this wiring harness and just leave the auto trans wiring disconnected ? 2) Is there any way to identify what computer I have and do I need the one for a stick shift? If these parts won't work what should I be looking for?

The wiring harness can be used with a manual trans. There are some extra plugs that won't be utilized for the auto tranny. The ecu I'd be wary of, since the identifiers have been "scratched off"...you can however, use an auto ecu for a manual, I am. I'd rebuild a jdm engine just like a used domestic market one. The b.s. about "low mileage" is just that. gl, however. You can find the required parts on here for cheap, ie ecu, egr stuff, etc.

Thanks very much for your reply. I did pull the head and bores look great with some cross-hatching still visible and virtually no top ridge. Used ARP bolts and changed valve seals just for grins. Guess I'll try the ECU they sent me as the insides look good. Have the old ECU for the non-turbo, but others on the forum indicate this won't work. If the jdm ecu doesn't pan out I notice there are others for sale here. Guess I'll drop it in today and see what I've got. Again much thanks.
