hey guys,

ae_1_b.JPG

ive seen this in wal-mart and didnt give much more thought to it until it made an appearance in Sport Compact Car. They were using it on their Celica they were prepping for the 24 Hours of Lemons race and said this stuff was a "fix-all" for engine problems. anyone ever used this, and if so does it hold much stock?

(looking for jdub to chime in, too)

Spend you're money on a lottery ticket. At least that way you will have some fun and a chance to win. Don't put that crap in you're car if you have any love for it, unless it's just a junker, then put 50 weight in it.

I think thats really meant for super shitty, almost dead engines. Its just coats the metal in your engine to cure small leaks and shit from what i understand.

All manuals I have read say NEVER to add any oil additives to your oil. I think the idea is that if that shit is gonna help you at all, you have a problem that should be dealt with and not just temporarily fixed with some thick coating.

maybe i should have cleared this up at first:

its just in general, i'm not planning on using it to the supra. at all. ever.

if it did have a purpose, it might get poured into the 1941 truck, but i seriously doubt ill go buy a can of this stuff.

just wondering if it worked at all.

Reminds of a "snake oil". If it's broke, or looking, sounding like it's broke, fix it, don't try putting on a band aid and hoping for the best ;).

unless its a beater...like a samurai:D

I've got a 3cyl geo metro that's got some valve noises up top and uses some oil. Just bought the car recently for cheap. It's cheap on gas (getting over 38 MPG with it running shitty right now), cheap on ins., and just plain cheap to fix too. I'm not going to put a "fix-it-all" snake oil in my car, as a matter of fact, I'll be rebuilding the entire engine this coming month with the bonus that I get tomorrow ;).

My point is: Just becuase your car is a beater doesn't mean it should be taken care of properly too (this is only my opinion and not trying to provoke anyone with it) ;).

i was just messing around with that last post, hence the :D

i wouldn't touch this stuff, but since Sport Compact had a bit of it and said it worked, i wanted to know if anyone on here had experience with it.

Yea, I used it about ten years ago. I used it in my old, worn out, 480B Case backhoe. The engine ran fine but smoked like hell. After I used the stuff it still smoked like hell. I still have that machine, still runs good and still smokes like hell.

I used it in my beater civic back in the day.. it smoked and thought maybe I'd try it (it was weak rings cause i ran no filter and the cyl walls were scratched up)... but it blew up shortly after.. I doubt it was form that, but who knows.. It had 150k miles.. Put a vtec head on it and drove down the road bouncing off the revlimiter several times.. I beat the hell out of it Bounced off the revlimiter all the time.. It died racing my buddys civic on the ighway at like 7200 rpm... I think I spun every rod bearing and probably a crank bearing too... lol.. bought another replacment engine for 275 though..

Another snake oil...all this will do is thicken up your oil and slow down the flow to the parts that need it the fastest (and the most). Namely your bearings and cams.

Don't buy off on the hype on this kind of stuff guys. A good syn oil will out perform this crap every time. According to the company each can of Engine Restorer contains billions of CSL micro-particles in suspension in a neutral motor oil of high quality. Each CSL micro-particle contains Lead (40%) dispersed uniformly throughout a Copper (60%) matrix with Silver. It also contains non-soluble moly and graphite. There are cases where sludge formed in motors...putting solids in suspension in your oil just can't be good for the engine.
