ok, sorry about posting in the wrong section. The engine starts fine and will run, for a few minutes, then it just stalls out. I was thinking that a seal might be bad or the fuel filter needs to be changes ( the car has been sitting for years) or something with the intake. I know that eventually we are going to pull the motor and attempt a 1 or 2 jz swap, but we would like for the stock engine to be in good running condition if we would need it for something (like another car)..

Did you drain the tank and put new gas in it?
On any car that's been sitting for a few years, a full tune up, timing belt, water pump, t.stat., and oil change should come first. Check all the rubber lines(coolant and vac.), and change any that are weathered, swollen, or hard. Change the oil, coolant flush, trans. and diff. service. I know it sounds like a lot, but it needs done.

Oil change can be done dirt cheap. Cheap walmart oil is better than 2 year old oil thats been run for x miles and sat stagnant for x years.

If you're poor don't kid yourself, you WILL NOT be able to do a swap unless a good motor happens to land in your lap. Take care of maintenance for now like wearable parts and good fuel. :)
