Me and my dad recently replaced all the coolant hoses before we started the car again. previous owner said that he had blown the headgasket once during that time he had the whole motor rebuilt after about a year the car was garaged and he was moving to Europe, and we purchased it from him sometime after. Now he didnt clean his resivoir tank so i did that. replaced all the hoses, retorqued the headgasket as it wasnt blown at that point so we did it early (It was already torqued to 55ft lbs we torqued it to 70ft lbs.)

The readiator was dry, which we found a sheredded hoses in the back of the block replaced that along with all the other hoses. Added new coolant. Started it up and it warmed up fine, except for a slight oil leak near or at the oil filter locale. No milky substance on dipstick or oil filler cap. No bubbles that i could see from the resivoir tank. However when driven the Water Temp spiked past the red zone, we quickly turned around and parked it, the temp. slowly came down, i checked the resivoir tank again no bubbles. My dad and I figure its eaither the thermostat, the radiator or the water pump. The upper radiator hose was HOT, the whole engine was hot my A/C blows cold havent checked the heater yet. Not sure exactly whats causing this. It didnt do this when we first purchased the car.

Also after i replaced my cluster cover my speedo stopped working, before it used to wobble. Now im not sure if got the green cable connected but im not sure if its that or my cable all together.

Help would be appreciated :1zhelp:
Thanks

Another BHG could. The coolant system, when running properly will burp itselt. Check you radiator cap and t-stat.

Hope its not another BHG :icon_evil .

No white smoke, no milkshake stuff, no bubbles....hm....hope its not....all the fans are running. Im not sure if I have the original radiator cap it didnt come with the car as far as i can tell, but im definitely going to check the thermostat.

burp it, flush it, dont use radiator sealers.

I flushed and burped mine many times to get out an airbubble causing overheating problems.

^ Thanks!

We've decided to replace the Thermostat, Temp Switch, Radiator cap, and flush the system. Ill be back if the problem continues

But thanks for all your help! :biglaugh:
i love this site

Thanks

"Radiator" sealers don't just go into your radiator...they go into the WHOLE SYSTEM...meaning the engine block, head, and all o fthe cooling passages...really has the potential to screw things up.

I would make sure all of the air is out of the system...if you have an air bubble, the heater won't blow hot, or will blow hot intermittently, and you will hear gurgling noises from behind the dash when driving the car.

As for the speedo, it may not be connected properly, but chances are if it was bouncing before, the speedo cable is probably broken.

I burped the system today installed new radiator cap. awaiting the thermostat gasket, new thermostat is going on later today. Well after i burped the system i noticed i now have white smoke out the exhaust so im automatically thinking (BHG AGAIN!) but i looked under my oil cap no foam, checked my resivoir tank no oil and nothing overflowing. So im changing the thermostat later today however wtf is going on?

I plan on getting that as well, however is coolant the only thing that can cause white smoke. its hard to describe its smell. I cant tell if it does that when im on the gas but i know it does that on idle and it seems to be alittle low. however the car has only been started 6 or 7 times and has only been driven down my short street and back. for the last month it hasnt been started at all.

Oil will almost look white sometimes but will have a blue tint. Coolant smells kinda sweet. Mine did the same thing and a block test confirmed that it was indeed a BHG.
Well if that is what is wrong you have a good exscue to fix it and make it better!!
