Well, first of all I have rod knock and wanted to know why it is so common on the 7M motors? Is it something we cause? Also I was reading Grim's engine overhaul post, (nicely done btw) you dont unbolt the bellhousing, you just take the tranny out with the engine? I have always unbolted the bellhousing but I guess the top bolts would be impossible to get to?? And im going to switch the distributor or whatever you call the electronic one how do you set timing when you put the new one in? I have done normal ones where you get #1 cyl to the top of the stroke, put it in with the rotor facing a certin point but how does this electronic thingy work???

usually rod knocks in our 7m are common are due to many reasons. One of which i think the most is drystarting. Not having enough sufficient oil in the motor will cause dry starting or dry running there for resulting in unblanced metal to metal contact. there are other reasons but this one is the one i encountered with my first 7m.

Just my 2 cents.

I know, I remember the bet, but he didn't make it before the new year ;)

Porterz, do a search man, there is everything that you will ever need to know on how to PROPERLY build a 7m. Check IJ's thread in the rebuild section. Get ready to do some serious reading. Also I believe there is a write up on how to build the engine, start to finish.
