What is the best engine management system. Is it the AEM ems? Does that get rid of the MAF? Can you still run the SAFC with it (i already have SAFC)? Sorry im a idiot when it comes to tuning, after i get the system i am having my shop tune it for me.

If you're looking for a stand alone EMS then yes, AEM is considered one of the best & it does get rid of the AFM.

The SAFC will not be needed as it scales (or fools) the AFM signal before it reaches the factory ECU. Since the AEM replaces the ECU & the AFM, there's no need to scale the AFM signal that no longer exists. :biglaugh:

ok

first off why do you NEED a standalone? What is the SAFC not doing for you that you are looking into a standalone?

Not everyone needs a standalone to achieve what they are going after ;)

i wanna get rid of the AFM, i just received a $40,000 settlement from an accident that happened a while back and am looking into some performance upgrades for my supra. Heres what i got and my plans,

My car now : HKS intake, shimmed wastegate, HKS BOV, HKS MHG torqued to 72, after it settles it'll be to 80lbs.

My plans : Rebuild lower end, 3" full exhaust (elbow - muffler....no cats), aftermarket turbo, or maybe .57 trim upgraded ct26, Apexi EVC, intercooler hard pipes, spearco intercooler, walbro 255, 550 injectors, and AEM EMS, tuned on a dyno by my local supra shop. Also new tranny and exedy clutch.

What turbo should i use? t4? sp61gt? Want it to spool fast and pull hard all the way to redline. 15-20 PSI.

AEM only to to get rid of the AFM? There a MAFT instead. With your upgrade ideas, you're looking at 430rwhp max, so AEM is not on the sensible side. Stick with your SAFC & save yourself $1000 plus.

Actually the VPC isnt made anymore right? So maybe ill go with the Greddy eman ultimate. It gets rid of MAF but doesnt have a base map for MKiiis i heard. Oh well, ill let the shop deal with tuning lol.

Wow.... with $40k I would just get rid of the mk3 and go get a 800hp already built mk4..... assumming your using most of the $40k for your car.

What I would do first is replace all the bad suspension, bushings, leaking roofs, trunks, BBK, etc... Do all the maintenance to get it back up to top shape then work on the engine.....

I recommend that you do a lot more research & solidify your goal before you drop any money. You can't get 450rwhp with a 57 trim, so you need to rethink the path you're going to take. Just my .02

Like tubbie said, if your car isn't in absolutely primo perfect condition then get it fixed before anything, since clearly you have the coinage.

ha ha, no im not gonna use the 40,000 all on my car. The only thing my car needs is a bottom end rebuild, and it probably doesnt need it, its more of a precautionary thing. I was lucky enough to get a supra with zero rust, leaks or problems....except for a code 52 (knock sensor) every once in a while, which is being fixed. Also, i am putting in a manual tranny as well.

After a couple hours of research i believe that i am going to go with the
sp58gt turbo. It will spool faster than the 61 and SP says it'll flow up to 500hp...good enough for me. I believe with that and the other mods i mentioned...with a good tune job and right boost, i should be able to hit 430rwhp at least....wouldnt you think?

Let me know of any suggestions you have for my plans. Your help and time already is greatly appreciated! :icon_bigg

A stand alone won't do you much good unless you're pushing the limits of the motor. You have to tune stand alones. Although you can tune the ignition too which will get a little more out the max boost the fuel you're using will allow.
The AEM is a "plug and play" ECU replacement.
Other big name stand alones are Electromotive TEC3 and a full line of Haltech systems. There are a bunch of other fuel only systems and may be some full stand alones.

The AEM is the only that uses all the stock sensors except the AFM. The other systems are going to be a pain to install. AEM also has an engineer and forum dedicated to the 7MGTE.

it goes away, and i believe it runs on map...manifold absolute pressure....or speed density....not sure what greddy uses, but the AFM is definitely gone.
