Ive just gotten done with a Headgasket job on my 7m and have been trying to get it started.

Ive set the timing and made sure it was lined up with TDC

Ive put in all new plugs

Ive checked for spark:yes

Ive checked for Fuel: yes

When cranking I get a low ruffling noise like its wanting to start but cant get that final oomph to get it done.

Sorry, Siris, I don't have an answer for you, but I thought I would let you know that help is on the way. Some of the really smart guys will be on here this evening and have your car running before you know it.
If you have a digital recorder you may want to video it and post it up here to make it easier on the guys. It may not be necessary, but it would probably help and everyone loves watching videos..........lol

The CPS actually confuses me as to really properly adjusting it enlightment would be great. Pulled plugs had fuel on em.

Was that a double barrel carb on that IJ?

Have you checked all the wires for spark, I remember checking only 2 of mine and they both worked so I thought I had spark all around. Later when I checked the other wires they were all dead.

Double check that the cps wires to the harness are were they are supposed to be, i cant remember right now but the colors are different, i ran into that problem after buying a cps off ebay which was apparently "rebuilt" and the wires were all criss-crossed. And also check the wires line up from the coil pack to the harness also, another idea: pull a spark plug out, ground it out some where but leave it attached to the wire, crank the engine over and you should get a nice blue spark, and you should be able to here it "snap". And fuel, double check the pressure, I think it should be at 50-60 psi after cranking and it shouldnt immediately leak down after cranking, somebody correct me if i am wrong, not enough fuel pressure will cause a no start. Just go through and double check everything, fuses, relays etc. Its gonna end up being something simple that was just overlooked!!! Good Luck!!!!

Thanks guys for the help. It was the CPS, I pulled it, lined it up, got everything back and fired it up for the first time. Disappointing though since it shut off after 5 sec's, need to find steel braided lines for tranny now.
