I have a 91 MK3 with the 7M-GTE motor. I have upgraded the turbo to the driftmotion 57 trim and I have stage 2 BC cams but those are the two most extreme upgrades I have done to this motor power wise. I am wondering if for TEMPORARY USE ONLY if I can run a Lexus AFM and something like 660cc injectors on the stock computer and have the car run half way decent. The reason being is being a college student putting myself through school and having to have my dd back, I need the engine computer but I don't have the 1000 plus dollars to drop into a standalone right now. Any legitimate thoughts on if this will work half way decent temporarily? I have upgraded the fuel system including an adjustable pressure regulator.

In your case i would go with 550cc injectors and the lex afm mod and use an safc to tune properly on the stock computer until you can afford to go with a full standalone like aem ems. Also 660cc injectors with just the lex afm and no way to tune is a very bad idea the car would be running crazy rich if even at all.

I am not like most ofthe "7mgte gods"that you can find in this forum, but performance on a budget,I know:first letme ask you, what other mods have you havein your engine? a carnal lawin performace is that ifyou put more air getting in you have tolet the same air out ofvthe engine, and in the procesess put gas and igniyion, that is a gret recepie for poweron thebudget.
let me recomend varios sites that help you take the right direction in perfrmance:
Supramania!!! is the number one place to learn how to do it.
also in my modest oppinion driftmotion is the best placetopurchaseitems with the "no bull...."filosophie".
Look at this too:

If you already have the 660cc injectors then get a SAFC and tune it.

Otherwise, 550cc injectors can commonly be found used for around $300 in the fore sale section.
Drop the 550's in with the Lexus AFM and you are done.

550s = 25% more fuel
lex = 25% more air to even it out
660s = 50% more fuel so you'll run hella rich if you don't have a tuning device
550s are good for 450+ hp anyways which you won't even reach with your mods so I'd get 550s

My only other performance mod is 3 inch exhaust. I have upgraded the valve train to Brian crowers plus cp pistons, eagle rods, and the drift motion oil pump. The only reason I was thinking of doing the larger injectors is because of the larger cams, but if everyone is saying the 550 cc injectors can handle it, I will run those. I plan on getting an air/fuel ration gauge, but is there anything else I should look at right away?

One last question. Any particular V8 Lexus AFM I should get? I work for an auto parts store so I'll just get one through work, but has anyone had better luck with one over the other?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought it was the electronics portion that I want installed in my car. Is the housing not the same as what came in the Supras and it is the electronics that read more accurately?

A lexus AFM tricks your ECU into thinking it`s drawing more air because its for a V8 not a 6 cylinder, there is also a screw to adjust it. I think they are referring to your original AFM. idk exactly but thats the jist of what I understand. if you search you should find what you`re looking for. but it`s already been explained in the thread, the afm compensates for the 550cc injectors.

You only need the aluminum afm housing off the lexus not the sensor its self as they are identical to the 7mgte sensor the difference is in the size of the housings and how much air they flow the lexus afm housing flows 25% more air than the stock housing which in turn needs to be compensated with 25% more fuel which = 550cc injectors. If you need more info about this mod feel free to pm me i will explain in full detail.

The housing is 25% larger with more air going through the bottom section thus raising fuel cut. With this done, you need to at least run 550cc injectors and a new fuel pump. Most will upgrade to a walbro 255 or the denso twin turbo fuel pump, you can also do a new AFPR to further control the fuel pressure.
