is there a big differance in the mounts in differant years i have an 88t auto and im doing a swap but the eng going in has differnt looking eng mounts then the one i pulled out should i just swap the ones off the old eng.

'87-'88 and some early '89 models have the square mounts. Mid '89 to '92 switched to the round mounts. You should use the mounts that came with your model chassis.
Yup, just use the mounts that were originally on your car. The earlier style mounts seem to last longer than the 90+ ones. Both of mine (90) were split in half when I took my engine out.
for anyone who has used both round and square, is there a noticeable difference in vibration between the oil filled round ones, and the squares?

Not a lot of difference vibration wise...the square mounts are more stout IMO. Randy sells square poly mounts:
