I know usdm gte uses egr to control det on boost. Does ge do the same under load? Is their any proven benefits of blocking off egr. I have this done to my 22re in my 85 pickup and seemed to kick up power, help it run better. But 7m and 22r are different motors so doesn't say they will do the same.

Any positive difference you see from removing the EGR is likely because the EGR wasn't functioning properly to begin with. Even on your pickup. ;) Keep the EGR.

Ditto. Egr does nothing to hurt performance. The only time it comes on when functioning properly is at highway speed when your cruising and not asking for power.

+1

the only way the EGR hurts your performance is if its stuck open. when its working properly it only opens to let in exhaust during a cruise to keep nox emissions low because exhaust gas is non combustible and it fills the cylinders with inert gas. and when you "floor it" it shuts again.

its one of those things that people want to believe, just keep on your egr.

how gan you tell if it is stuck open????????????????

Get a new gasket, pull it off and spray it with carb cleaner and clean the deposits out if it. I couldnt tell you how to check it not sure if our cars are vacuum, solenoid, or variable solenoid...
