ECU Swapping Help

Hello All,
Recently I swapped a jdm 7mgte engine and I'm currently still using my us ecu m/t. I read somewhere that its ideal to use a jdm ecu when using no EGR for timing reasons, so my question is if I was to obtain a jdm ecu for my engine year, would it just be an easy unplug my us and plug in the new jdm? I'm assuming I'd also have to replace most of the sensors too? Is there anything else I should be concerned with? Or is it even worth going through to trouble for a daily driver?

Just plug it in but why is your EGR missing? Someday the truth about all that will come out. Until then it makes for wonderful entertainment...

It's not missing, I have one in right now. But if I was to switch to a jdm wouldn't the sensors be in different units than the American ecu

The sensor's "units" are in Hz, Volts, or Ohms. What's different for an American dashboard is the markings on the dials that give you numbers. Unless the year is a mismatch, and the sensor electrical connector is different, there would be no difference between the JDM and USDM parts. Some things, like the throttle cable assembly will be different because of the difference between left hand and right hand drive for a JDM motor.

Install the JDM motor (Though remember that it's still a used motor, you don't actually know its condition.) using the USDM ECU. Install the EGR. That's (IMO) the best route.

If you will not install the EGR, then I'd say that it's probably better (IMO) to use the JDM ECU. More so for a daily driver than a track car. A daily driver shouldn't need to go faster than 180 km/h (About 112mph) anyway, and since you will be spending more time at part throttle/closed loop where the EGR would be open, it's probably a better idea to have an ECU that doesn't expect it. I don't think that there are wiring issues with using a same model year JDM ECU, but I don't know this for fact. I'm basing this on the fact that the wiring diagrams for aftermarket goodies like the Apexi AVC-R and Neo don't make differentiations for the ECU wiring diagram, but they do indicate different positions where you'd find it in a RHD car. From this, I'd say that the chances are pretty good that the wiring looks the same.

meh I ran my jdm 7m on USDM ECU for 10k+ miles at least running 350hp... engine blew when my buddy was driving it (think he over-boosted) ddp and safc working hand in hand on that one... I wasn't present to keep my pistons from melting :3d_frown:

So, what are you saying? Running a JDM ECU caused your engine to blow up?

you clearly didn't read my post... I said the SAFC + DDP did it.... as in over boosting... running out of fuel when the engine thinks it has enough, and then melting it... should I continue?

what part about my motor (in my possession) holding up for 10,000+ miles with hard abuse didn't you understand?... my engine blew when I wasn't there to look after it.

EGR or not... run hot and lean on boost with any motor and see what happens....
