yes u can use a later model ecu just make sure u get a auto ecu if you have an auto car. however before u swap ecus does your cel light come on when you turn the key to the on position? if so your ecu isnt the problem.....

no more so what he meant,
was did your check engine light come on with key on?
if it did, then you should have the ability to get the car to run in most cases.

jump t and e1 in the diag box next to the batterie and watch the sequence of blinking flashes the cel does there is about a 2 second pause between codes, and each code could be 0-9,0-9 resulting in a max of 99 and zero being constant flash with no break up or pause. (typical codes, 24-26-32-34)
thats like a temp signal in the afm being wrong, a bad water temp sensor, hac problem i think and another temp sensor. :p

i would look more so to if your getting fuel or spark.

i have seen many cars run out of fuel, or have a wire disconnected and not get spark

any chance to you have the brown and white wires bolted onto the intake manifold??

lol thats good, cause you would have a hand full of fuses to replace and possibly the whole engine harness and would be luckie if you didn't catch the car on fire :p

check the codes,

when you crank does your tach move?

that your ecu isnt bad and you need to check other systems. check your codes and update on what you found thus far.
