Just like the title says I have this weird thing going on. All of the sudden my car doesn't want to idle, usually after I've driven it a while, shut it down and then restarted it. What happens is the idle starts bouncing around and then it feels like it going to stall and the whole time I can here a clinking sound under the dash which I presume to be the ECU. Could it be the Idle control valve and why would that cause the ECU to make the clinking noise?

It's not vacuum cause I have a vacuum gauge and it seems to be steady, so I am stumped. I can keep it running by fanning the throttle but it also hesitates while I'm cruising at speed on the freeway.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have that EXACT problem. Although, I haven't heard a noise with mine. I should listen more carefully. I have had this problem for almost a year. And I know it's not a vaccuum problem as well. I honestly can't find out whats wrong with it. I need help on this as well!!!

I don't think it's vacuum on mine as I have a gauge and it doesn't seem to fluctuate, although I haven't eliminated the possibility. Somebody out there has had this prob, C'mon somebody help us out...please.

Check the elevtrical connection to the ISC,
The clinking you hear is probably a bad connection on one of the relays in the passenger side kick panel. When a relay has a poor power source or ground, it can engage half-way, making a grinding, clicking noise.
