Here it goes.
I have 2 Mk3 Supras a black 91 turbo hardtop shadow grey interior (Mine)
and a 90 turbo targa white package dark blue interior (VerucaSalt's) she's my wife and is going to post as well I think.
This is them now:
Let me start off by saying that I have had one, and know these cars pretty good (but will need help), have rebuilt motors, bought "JDM low mileage" pos motors with rod knock. I have learned that with these, It is better to "rebuild while its out". and not half ass. Murphy's law rings true for these supras always. I also know that when you buy one of these, it will have BHG or you should at least treat it as so. Every supra I have bought (now 3) have had BHG's. I did it last time without this site, which is a wealth of knowledge. I am happy to be here, and will try to refrain from stupid unresearched questions. I will not talk just to talk. I will try to keep up on my builds.
Here it goes.
1991 Turbo Hardtop.
170k on the clicker. When I bought it, had compression of 126 #1 and 87 #6, overheating spewing compression I believe into coolant blew h20 out the cap when off car completelty cold. I found stock head bolts intake side all 7 @80lbs plus exhaust side all 7 maybe 30lbs. I had an old set of ARP hardware that was still good. I threw them in torqued to spec with moly lube. Seems to have stopped the coolant problem, no overheating runs. Has major valve clatter under load. I always seem to try to fix the old stuff to much dismay with these cars. The outcome is always the same. I then said forget it going to rebuild. I hate trying to patch up old things. I would rather spend the time rebuilding right and removing some unknowns. I know if I do it its going to be done reasonably well.
For this car I have an almost complete motor already. The block is on a stand being broken down.
I am going with ARP fasteners on the head/rods/crank. Clevite bearings. I have a Gates timing belt.
The head is going in tomorrow. They are going to do a rebuild, and resurfacing using oem parts.
I am going to replace all fluids and worn hoses.
Needs very minor bodywork but a new paint job.
Dash is shot rest of interior minor blems.
Mod List:
TBD but includes bigger turbo and supporting mods including Maft Pro and an LC1 coilovers brakes full bushings kit.
1990 White Package Turbo Targa
196k on the clicker.
Car is in very good shape new bushings new springs new shocks. The dash is absolutely perfect/flawless. Only the seats and door panels need a little work. Exterior needs attention.
The motor was rebuilt about 7k ago, the head looks decent and so does the block. I am dropping the head off as well to get re-done. I am keeping the block inside the car and cleaning it up. The BHG came from the previous owner who had the coolant hose come off the back of the motor, she didn't see the gauge and blew the oem headgasket because they only torqued the stock re-used headbolts to the factory specs. They had no experience with the 7M's. I talked to the shop that did it. Oh well.
Mods:
This car is going to receive CT2657/Intake/Lex/550's DDP and Catback, intercooler piping a FPR, egt, EBC, AFC, fuel pump, and some dyno time.Etc..
Additional parts as needed.
More to come...
