Would this be a reliable manual boost controller? If not, can someone point in the direction of where to get a good one(for a low price)?

as for reliability, yeh they would be fine. Its relativelyhard to go wrong with a MDC.
I have the voodoo MBC off ebay and it works great, no spikes at all!

I just ordered one from Dr. Jonez earlier this week. For MBCs there's no better option.

get one from either doc jones or buy the voodoo 2 off ebay. either way they're good.
