Head was resurfaced, block and timing cover were machined, head was retorqued and 5000 miles later the head gasket failed. That will be the last time I try to save money by buying ebay no name parts.

Just trace that headgasket onto that cardboard underneath it and use it for your next HG. Or if you want you can buy my Evergreen HG. It's another cheapie composite HG.

Have you not read posts about head gasket problems?Genuine Toyota ones are even hit and miss, let alone e-bay ones.
Genuine Toyota gaskets have never failed me. Any of them. Proper installation is key. ;)

For a moment, I thought you were serious. I even put my Moderator's hat on. False alarm, well played, sir. :biglaugh:

If you spent the money to machine the surfaces...why not spend money on the HG? ::dunce::
If you would have posted a picture of that thing before you put it on.....you probably wouldn't be dealing with this right now.

Toyota gaskets are not bad at all,if you keep the motor stock!
But even then, you must replace it when you reach the 60k miles
mark...on a 7M only:naughty: Ofcaurse it is unusuall for a toyota motor to change it's
head gasket so soon! But this is the weak point on 7Mgte engines....

Now,if you want more HP on a 7M you must replace it with a good MHG.
My no1 mhg is the HKS stopper type :biglaugh:
No second guess on that!

If you get the ebay gasket kit most are fine but not the headgasket. My friend used all but the headgasket on his 7m mk2 bhg job and theyve worked fine so far.

LOL i cant believe you actually used a head gasket from a $40 set. THeres a reason Toyota charges 600+ just for their head set, and theres also a reason many toyotas go 150k miles + without any leak issues

I wouldn't say must. You can make some really good power on the stock headgasket, assuming you've got a good tune. ;)

Referring to the hundreds of posts about the infamous 7M BHG.Granted,I have had good luck with genuine toyota and felpro headgaskets, but on 5M na motors, not 7M,and definitely not turbo'd 7M's.Even with the toyota ones some people don't have any luck with 7M headgaskets, let alone e-bay cheapie ones.
