Ebay AFPR!!!

I originally bought a $30 AFPR off eBay for my MR2 Turbo as a band-aid, but since the MR2 has become my daily driver due to gas prices, I bought an aeromotive for it instead (didn't want to get stranded due to a bad AFPR); and this ebay AFPR ended up becoming my paper weight for the last 6 months.

That is until TODAY! So rather than toss it in the trash like I had originally planned, I installed it on my Supra.

On first startup, the eBay AFPR did LEAK like a MOFO. So I pulled it out and as I was about to take it apart and place it in the recycling bin, I noticed that all the allen bolts holding down the AFPR together were only finger tight! So I decided to torque down these babies and reinstall it. To my amazement there was no more leaking! :biglaugh:

The gauge even showed a steady fuel pressure at 30 psi at idle. And get this, the adjusting screw on the top of the AFPR actually works! I was able to adjust it up to a steady 60 psi of fuel pressure at idle and back down to 30 psi. I was amazed!

As of right now, I have it set at 45 psi and drove it hard for 30 mins. All I can say is that the AFPR still works. As for how long... I do not know. :biglaugh:

But hey, can't really complain at $30. Just thought I'd share my adventure for today.

why wouldn't the adjustment screw work? Its mechanically impossibly to not work unless the spring is too short?

Just because its ebay, doesn't make it crap.

Keep us informed on its status.

an afrp is just a liquid boost controller... LOL

pretty simple device... i wonder if you could make a FPR out of home depot parts...

im sure you could with the right tools, time and a lot of know-how

First off, do you mean 'chinese' AFPR ?
Since I see SARD, HKS, and Aeromotive AFPRs on eBay also.

Being $30, I imagine it's one of the chinese ones......

Love it, an item connected to a 30+ PSI fuel system that leaks when new !
I wonder how many Supras (or other 'tuner') cars have roasted down because of that crap ?

Now, are you still going to think it's a good deal when the diaphram ruptures,
and sprays raw fuel into your intake manifold,
and washes down your cylinders causing ring failure/cylinder wear ?

Personally, I don't think a $30 AFPR is worth the risk.......

Just in case anyone is curious, I am still running the stock FPR. This ebay AFPR is running off the return line from the stock AFPR and I'm not a big fan of eBay stuff, but I am the adventurous type and would personally like to know if these last.

Aside from the under torqued allen bolts, the AFPR actually does the job. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if it failed, but again IF IT DIDN'T that would be cool too.

:biglaugh:

I don't remember the auction, but type in fuel pressure regulator and it just looks like the blue and red ones. I'm sure they all come from the same manufacturer, just sold under different names.

Because people said if it didn't leak, the adjustment screw wouldn't work; and if it did work, it would fail almost immediately.

So far those people are wrong because it did leak and it has been working just fine. :naughty:

We'll see how it holds in the next two weeks.

"Raw fuel" ?....As opposed to what?:)

I take it both these cars are boosted.

Well, normally fuel passes through the injectors, that are controled by the ECU.

If the FPR diaphram blows,
fuel goes strait to the manifold via the vaccum/pressure sense line,
and in Great quantities !!

This is Very Bad when it happens.........

if it leaks, there's little pressure to be gained, but still some. If it doesn't then pressure will build as spring compression is increased. Again, its still mechanically impossible ;)

That and valve stems. :naughty:

Honestly, I've been losing interest in the supra... all my money goes to the MR2 turbo nowadays.

just FPR, not adjustable

I just got confused... :icon_neut So your ebay piece isn't even controlling the fuel going to the engine, just the fuel to the j-pipe-->tank?

No wonder the pressure wouldn't increase when you tried to adjust it. :biglaugh:

It does control fuel pressure, but the lower limit is controlled by the stock fpr fuel pressure. Stock fpr opens at 30 psi, but the ebay afpr opens at 43 psi thus fuel pressure is increased.

Pretty simple to understand if you ask me. :biglaugh:

I know my Supra needs work, but just haven't had the motivation to work on it. As I stated earlier, my MR2 takes all the glory. It's fast and I still get 30 mpg. My supra can barely manage 23 mpg on the freeway.

Still not following... There is no way to raise fuel pressure if the last thing fuel sees before hitting the rail is the stock FPR. You could even install the AFPR in the feed line pre-regulator, but then once it hits the OEM regulator it's kicked back down to stock 30psi.

I'm not trying to bag on you, just trying to understand your logic. Please explain to me how an AFPR can raise fuel pressure from the return line.
