so theres a place out here that sells E85 gas, i was checking their website and its basically 85% ethonol and its about 2.50 a gallon. and since i dont know shit bout this does anybody know if its worth it trying to get it to work on my 7m? it says only cars made for it can use it. but its basically a/f ratios and injector sizes that matter the most in what cars can use it according to their website..

www.e85fuel.com

so if anybodys got any info that would be sweet.

also.. i did search.. e85 is too short to search with and i tried e85 gas and that didnt bring up anything..
No...not if your goal is to save money, considering the cost to do it, and getting less mpg in the end.

Actually, considering e85's high octane (105 i think) and its properties, it's particularly well suited to a turbocharged engine. You may find that in a supra it is pretty efficient. Of course since it packs less energy per gallon than gas you'll always use more e85, but the efficiency increase (with the right tune) should more than make up for that.

that is because the point of that thread has nothing do with performance. Just ideas on what it takes to do E85 conversion ;)

as for performance. Well 105 plus the cooling properties of alcohol equal to going through a tank of gas pretty damn quick. Especially when a weldon 2345 is pumping the fuel through 6, 880 cc/min injectors ;)

Its not worth it. E85 will become more expensive when the demand is higher. Right now ethanol is only like 2% of the nations fuel need. I don't see it going further any time soon.

Ontop of that, you'd have to convert your car to run alcohol through the lines. Or run E15, but like previously mentioned E85 produces less energy than gasoline. I believe the numbers (i wrote a term paper for college on E85), with gasoline at 1, E85 is about .75 while diesel is 1.15 and biodiesel is around 1.25 or something like that.

correct

but how much does 105 octane cost? This fuel is not for MPG. It is for ultimate power. PERIOD. Regardless of how much more it takes ;)

How about mixing E85 with 87 octane regular unleaded (which is actually E10 around here, and is supposed to go up to E20 in the future) to get the octane you need for your setup and keep you cost/mile below what it would be on premium unleaded? Seems like there is alot of room to make compromises by varying the blend ratio. Should also reduce the corrosiveness and ease the flow requirements vs. 100% E85.

Figgie,
How long has your car been on E85? I finally found the spreadsheet I made when I first started thinking about running it, the date was 8/26/2002, guess I haven't gotten very far, lol.

oohh

for about three years now. This fuel for me was not ever for MPG. if 100 octane GASOLINE/PETROL cost as much as E85 I would still go E85 because of the cooling properties and the buring cooler aspect of it. MPG??? Somehow at WOT I doubt 5280 cc/min ( or 5.2 Liters or 2.5 2 litter bottle of soda a minute) injection rate is very conducive to MPG regardless of fuel used ;)
