So I understand that I'll need big injectors like 850cc for 500hp and a 400lph alcohol approved pump along with stainless lines and anodized fuel rail
But....
What about the fuel tank? Its steel so its gonna rust right?

I'm building my engine for E85. I will use a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump, 42% bigger injectors, a little pressure increase, colder plugs, and stock fuel system, it make years of alcohol use before it wear. Same for fuel tank but..

Ethanol catch water, and ethanol + water is formal acid (don't sure about the name), then we shouldn't store ethanol in the tank without using it, because it is this acid which wears the system.

Then alcohol clean the fuel system, then any corrosion or deposit will be passing in the injectors and the engine.. You should ensure the cleanliness of your tank and line before use..

Also, we admit to increase timing advance and compression ratio of 1 point each 3 to 6 points octane increase. I will do this, that will help alcohol burning, thermal efficiency, power, and mileage.
It's not necessarily, but a nice option to take all advantage of the corn juice.

Ive read that all major manufacturers from around the early 80's started using ethanal safe fuel systems. Im in the process of going e85 and the only thing that concerns me is the fuel filter.

Does anyone know if our stock fuel filters are ethanol safe? If not, does anyone know of a good, cheap, inline filter that I can use?
not to jack your thread or anything..

A friend of me has been running ethanol in is mk3 for years on stock system as far as 30% blend, and then e85 with a flex fuel box. Nothing bad happened.

Junkyard here I come!
But regardless what should I know about e85 and steel gas tanks and steel lines or fuel filters??

I'll happily buy you one if you can get two ;-)

For tank, line, and filter, a friend of mine did nothing but increase slowly the blend between Pump unleaded 95-E10 and E85.
I will try the same myself and look for leaks carefully.

I read many times late 80s cars have no problems because governments asked manufacturers to prepare to have alcohol contents in pump gas

I think AEM is still working on Flex Fuel Sensor compatibility with the V2, and already has it with the Infinity. Theyve announced support for the V2 box, but thats all I know. The GM sensor seems to be the most common aftermarket route

Flexfuel compatability needs two input on the EMS of choice

one is PWM and the other is frequency based (If using the GM or Ford based Flex fuel sensors).

gasoline is a good lubricant.

So rock the stock tank and hard lines as long as I don't got 100% ethanol. I might consider a secondary filter in the firewall if it does sit for a month or 2 maybe even winter season

Drain it if sitting for winter.
