Just wondering:: Whats the differences' between the different Dyno's?? Is there a type that is better or more accurate? or does it all depend on who's behind the controls? I heard different dyno's read differently. I heard the "Dyno Jetts" are the best or most accurate. (the roller type)
Then there's the kind where you take off your wheels and they hook up the dyno to the drive axle.

Comments?? Experience's?? between the two.

O.k. sorry for the qeustion, I guess i was just bored,I think I'll go play in my Meth lab, well, maybe not, I think I'll work on my mkiii instead, "close" it now.

DynoJets are FAR from accurate. They have a free-spinning roller, so they'll gauge the HP higher....real popular with 'Dyno Queens'. Mustang Dynos (Mustang Brand) are more accurate, because they can actually apply a load to the drum and simulate real-world driving. They're better for tuning your vehicle because of this feature, and they read more accurately. They'll read about 20% lower than a DynoJet IIRC. Go to Camarillo Auto Center over off of Dawson and talk to Larry -- he's got one -- if you want to dyno....pretty reasonable rates, too if you're just looking for a few pulls....not sure what his hourly is for tuning though.

I didn't know Larry has a Mustang brand, I thought he had the Dyno Jet type,... I could be wrong. Yeah, he's hundred bucks an hour, did you do bussiness with him?

Yeah, he's got a Mustang Dyno -- he's listed on Mustang's site IIRC. Yeah, back when I first moved down from Fresno, I had him dyno my truck...was like $40 for 3 pulls IIRC...but dunno if that's his going rate, or if he hooked me up. I've dealt with him a couple times, he put the cat in on my Supra after I bought it. My buddy though, had his shop do a shift kit on his trans and they fucked it up....so might not want them doing trans work...lol.

As far as I can tell, all dynos in the US seem to read about 10-15% higher than Aus dynos...

Tis very weird.

South of the eqauter (spell check) has a different gravity pull,.. also it has different accent which is why I can't spell!!!

im just wondering something, a guy i know told me that people can manipulate dyno's to show a lot more power than your vehicle is really making. is this true?

Very true, especially with this so-called "better" mustang dyno. Atleast dyno-jets are more consistant.

the guy was telling me he could just make some changes in the computer and it could change the dyno curve. im just wondering if this is fact or just bs.

Im a Senior at The university of northwestern Ohio, We have both a Centrifugal (Dyno jet style) and a Four wheel Brake Dyno (Mustang style). The Brake dyno constantly has to be calibrated for weather conditions and after so many runs. My school doesnt have an actual dyno tech so they outsource to have it calibrated (Like once a year) so the Brake dyno is always inaccurate. (due to being uncalibrated) We had a N/A Gen2 RX-7 Bridge port on it, According to the brake dyno it made 112HP and 486 Ft/lbs torque.. The Dyno jet (centrifugal) read 236HP 146FT/lbs torque .. the Dyno jet style is alot less complicated which makes it easier to use. So you could say the results are more repeatable..

But a Brake dyno (mustang dyno) is by far the better to test and tune on. If you are going to be building a car over some time though. Pick one shop and continue to use their dyno for the most repeatable results. You could go all around town to 10 different shops and get 10 very different numbers. just depends if you want a slip with a number or repeatable results and a properly tuned car.

Sorry that was soo long winded.
