junk what do u mean junk? what's wrong with it, have u used it before?
No, I've not used it before but that's not the point. And while you may not "need" two filters you should definately use two. Just not those filters.
It's junk in the sense it's a cheap kit with cheap parts and very poor filters. I won't even go into the wisdom of using cheap hose, barbed fittings, and spiral clamps on external oil paths. Without knowing the reasons behind why you bought this I'll still take a stab at educating you. It's not intended as a flame.
I assume the entire point of wanting this was to get the benefits of depth (bypass) filtration first and the convienence of a remote filter mount second. Why else would you get a combination full flow/bypass kit? If all you wanted was relocation of the full flow filter you paid too much. You should have done what shaeff suggests.
If you bought it for the benefits of bypass filtration (and there are many) you screwed up. Not that depth filtration is a bad idea, far from it. Truckers, NASA, the military, and the industrial sector have been using it for years. It's also very effective for coolant, PS, and auto tranny fluid.
But while depth filtering is an excellent idea (and putting aside for a moment Fram is well known to make crap full flow filters) the Fram BP50 in this kit is a joke as far as bypass filters go. Cut one open and you'll see it's nothing more than a standard pleated filter with a flow control orifice. It doesn't use depth media like a real one does. It's a scam just to call it a bypass. That said, there isn't any spin-on bypass filter made that is submicronic even if it they are the depth type. Amsoil's bypass filter comes close and they they last a long time if you get the larger size but they're still not submicronic. They're expensive to boot.
Now that you've bought this thing at least use a WIX or Pure One in the full flow position and an Amsoil 90 in the bypass position. You can do that by using the 3/4-16 to 1 inch adaptor the same seller has. Or use Purolator's L3003 in the bypass position, it'll screw right on like the Fram. It's not submicronic either but it's whole lot better than the BP50. By the time you've gone through all this you'll have spent as much as a single Amsoil bypass kit would've cost and much more than you could've thrown one together yourself for.
As I said, there is no spin on bypass made that is submicronic. If you want true submicronic depth filtration get an Oil Guard, Gulf Coast, or one of the other dedicated bypass filter setups. Or use a toilet paper roll filter unit like the Frantz or MotorGuard, they're as good as it gets for depth filtration and the "elements" are as close as your local grocery store. Install any of these using a sandwich adaptor or, even better, a direct pressure feed and drain. The Trasko combination full flow/bypass also works well but you'll have to buy their filter elements. It takes the place of your full flow and can be remotely located. That way you get the best of both worlds in one filter.
The bottom line is you paid a lot for a cheap cast pot metal dual mount with cheap hoses and fittings. About all it'll do effectively as it comes is relocate your full flow filter. If that's all you wanted than OK but it was an expensive way to go. If you wanted anything more (like good filtration) you made a mistake.
Btw, that seller tends to pad shipping on all his auctions. That you're located not far from him makes it even more of a scam.
