Just wondering what kind of diff i will experience with a 170 thermostat? My thermostat isn't getting to normal operating temp at 190 like it should, So i decided to go 170? Any thoughts?
I would put it in for performance reasons... Basically, the thermostat does not control your temp. It is a standard for how much coolant flow is needed to make the engine run at the specified temp. The 170* will open sooner and therefore more overall giving you better coolant flow to the radiator meaning a better cooling effect. Just watch your temp and make sure you get to operating temp in a reasonable amount of time/driving.
Ok, I had to replace the lower radiator hose (after 18 years I think it did pretty good) and the thermostat gasket so why not go ahead and do it. Im just wanting to take extra precaution with the motor, at least untill I get another 7m in the garage on the stand.
