lol, just checkin... it took me 3 days to figure out that the clutch and pressure plate had to be put inside of the tranny, then the tranny lifted up to the motor, then the pressure plate and clutch torqued down through the access pannels on my r-154 bellhousing... :-/ that sucked (tranny won't go on if the pressure plate and clutch are torqued down on the flywheel prior to sliding tranny into the doghouse)

Well, if you marked where all the adjustment cams were before you took it out you should be able to get it right back where it was.

don't bother. pull the engine.....far easier.

and i was curious about alignment... how bad will my car be after i take it off and re-install (steering off to one side)

just pull the steering wheel and fix it....or as stated, mark where it went.

Adam...
It's not easier to pull the engine, Heidi and I can have the pan off in about 40 mins now, it takes that long just to get the engine ready to come out...

congrats. i prefer to pull the engine....makes it easier for me in my old age....

while you may be able to do it quickly, you need to think about the guy asking the question.....what would be easier? safer? in my book that = pulling the engine. besides, chances are there's more going on than just needing to drop the oil pan....

True, but all things aside, if it's a leaky pan, otherwise a good strong engine, I think pulling it is a waiste of energy.
I used to be a pull it every weekend guy, but lately, dropping the K-member has been my method of choice. ;)

well, now that it's stopped raining... i can't even start to think about how to properly remove the subframe... (i'm retarted when it comes to stuff like this), i'll probably just pull the motor, since i can actually do that correctly :-/... and why does my hane's manual simply say to lift the motor up in the engine bay?

steps in manual are as follows (basically)

1. remove tranny to engine block braces and flywheel inspection panel
2. remove nuts from engine mounts
3. attatch engine hoist to engine hooks and lift in engine bay
4. pull pan off

why do they say this if this won't work? and i thought there had to be at least 8" of clearance for the oil pump pick-up

one good reson is that some cherry picker will fall bit by bit over time

is there a write-up on this or anything... i'm assuming the rack and pinion has to come down too? :-/

I Have done this it is very easy to do

Took out the complete subframe with shocks attached left the brake calipers with the body.

Rolled out the frame with wheels still on as coverd in the http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/lu/LU_07.html
Hardest part was reseting the steering rod into the rack while jacking the x member up

Apart fromn a shop jack you need to support the body on stands and support the engine on

IF i ever have to replace a MK3 sump again i will pull the complete engine the time taken + alignment is no quicker

cause the sub fram still a booger it must be moved plus you have to wipe the said of the block so no oil drips down on your new gasket

just plain pain in the ass plsu most cheery pickers will fall over time so ajustment are all ways needed or just plain bad for the picker

2 2x4 will hold the motor up with the motor strped to it with tie downs

i was thinkin about maybee trying to hold it up w/ the tranny (jack and wood under tranny), but i'll have the cherry picker hooked up incase that won't work
