I'm swapping a 1JZ into my MKIII, and going to be using the R154 transmission. My car is a 1987 with a 7MGTE/automatic. I thought I would just need an 87' M/T driveshaft to swap to the R154, but after looking at several places that sell driveshafts I'm confused. One site listed one shaft for the automatic and one for the manual, another site listed that the manual transmission shafts changed in 89, and another site listed that you need a custom made shaft to put a manual in an 87-88 automatic, and another site said the automatic driveshaft that's already in the car should be used for the swap. I searched on here and couldn't find anything about this specific problem.
Is the rear end on the 87-88 turbo automatic different than the manual cars for those two years or something? or am I just getting misinformation?
