Driveshaft Carrier Bearing Radial play?

Hello gents. My 90 with stock driveshaft has MAJOR radial play (think up and down as you lay under the car). The play is at least 0.25 inch, maybe up to 0.75 inch. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. My initial thought was it means that the bearing is absolutely toast, but I'm unsure.

My reason for checking was that I have an annoying chatter occasionally when going into gear and creeping around in parking lots. It only chatters when slipping the clutch into 1st and R under 2-5 MPH. I've never noticed vibration while driving and it's happened on this car with multiple engines, differentials and clutches. I have a full face disk and it just doesn't feel like clutch chatter.

I'm sure many of you have messed around with your driveshaft and replaced the bearing or the whole driveshaft. Is the radial play in the carrier bearing normal?

Sounds very similar to what my Mk3 and Mk2 do... definitely a shot carrier bearing. Does it do it if you're not smooth between gears? I'm pretty sure mine is pretty far gone, so sometimes between shifts, if I'm not smooth, it will have a bit of backlash.

Eh, I don't really notice it, but I do find it hard sometimes to shift smoothly. Thus far, I've just attributed that to my own lack of shifting ability, lol

Not all that uncommon to have a bad carrier bearing. I have driven more Supras with bad ones than good ones. :p
