Wow, is that the going rate? or do you "know someone" lol What types of places make them? That seems like a much better alternative than paying almost the same amount for a damn stupid carrier bearing...god i hate that little bastard!

Every driveshaft twists. How much depends on the properties of the metal.

If you know the amount of torque, the length, the moment of inertia, and the material properties, you can find out how much it twists.

or someone who paid attention in physics. id rather go aluminum, i doubt the risk of twisting is too much, unless youre shooting for massive hp or a really poorly constructed part

I don't see what the big deal is. My hard drive spins just as fast.

your harddrive is a small little plate, we are talkin about a long 17lb peice of steel. 15k rpm is hella fast.

At 15,000rpm if the disk on your harddrive popped out and hit you ...you might find yourself with a nice little hole somewhere on your body or possibly missing some fingers or toes

At 15,000rpm if a driveshaft popped out of the machine and hit you...you might find yourself meeting your maker

I hope someone in the navy pops on to correct me, but I heard that on an aircraft carrier, the solid steel driveshaft twists 3 full rotations under full torque. Also it's supposed to be 3 feet in diameter and 100 feet long
